A truly special find , an exceptionally well-preserved Hungarian spinning wheel, still accompanied by all its original working parts. Pieces like this rarely survive intact, especially with their accessories still together after so many decades.
 
This wheel includes:
• The drive wheel (painted in its original folk red)
• Flyer and bobbin assembly
• Mother-of-all with the tension screw
• Distaff (rokkafa) — for holding unspun flax or wool
• Multiple spare bobbins
• Niddy noddy / winding sticks for skein making
• Spindle / drop spindle for hand-spinning finer fibres
 
In rural Hungary, spinning wheels like this were at the heart of winter life. Women gathered for fonó, spinning evenings filled with conversation, folk songs, laughter, and community warmth. It wasn’t just a task; it was a ritual of togetherness.
