A traditional Hungarian borszák jug dated 1972, crafted from raw terracotta with simple painted banding around the shoulder. These vessels were historically used in rural households to store wine, pálinka, vinegar or other liquids, often kept in cool cellars or hung by the handle.
The jug shows classic hand-formed features: a slightly uneven rim, a sculptural pulled handle, and the natural pitting and texture of coarse terracotta. The pale decorative stripes are typical of mid-20th century countryside pottery, made for everyday domestic use rather than decorative display.
The underside is marked “1972 Borszák”, adding provenance and dating the piece clearly.
A beautiful example of Hungarian folk utilitarian pottery, valued today for its warm tones, rustic texture, and sculptural simplicity.
