Approx. 78 cm tall x 49 cm wide
Available to reserve – arriving early January
A rare and striking piece of Hungarian rural heritage. This large demijohn is made from deep olive-black hand-blown glass and housed in its original tightly woven wicker basket, a true survivor of a bygone era.
Traditionally used for fermenting and storing wine or pálinka (fruit brandy), demijohns like this were common in village homes and cellars across Hungary and Eastern Europe. Today, it’s an extraordinary decorative object, bold in scale and rich in texture. Beautiful as a statement on its own or tucked into a corner with branches or festive greenery.
Pieces in this condition, with the cork, neck cloth, and basket intact, are increasingly hard to come by.
Available to reserve now ahead of its arrival in early January.
